Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of ancient Chinese medicine in which very thin needles are inserted into the skin at specific points on the body.

Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve mood and energy and to reduce or relieve pain. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications or even surgery. Relief is often obtained with acupuncture when traditional medical therapy has failed.

Acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy, or “life force,” flows through the body in channels called meridians. This life force is known as Qi (pronounced ‘chee’). Practitioners who adhere to traditional beliefs about acupuncture believe illness can occur when Qi cannot flow freely through the body. Practitioners believe that acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi, and so restore health.

Cupping

Cupping is a technique using suction to increase circulation in an affected area and by doing so, treat a condition called blood stasis. Chinese medical practitioners believe blood stasis is the source of pain. According to theory, placing a cup on the skin promotes the movement of “QI” (energy) and blood. Cupping is used for many conditions, including sore muscles, tension, back, shoulder, and neck pain, the common cold, and influenza.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a technique in which a round-edged instrument is used to gently scrape or rub the skin of the upper back, neck, or chest. It is believed that Gua Sha promotes normal circulation and enhances metabolic processes. It is used in the treatment of pain, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many acute or chronic disorders.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese therapy in which an herb called moxa is applied to warm regions and acupuncture points of the body. Practitioners believe moxibustion helps stimulate circulation through the points and that it induces a smoother flow of blood and Qi. Moxibustion is used to treat joint pain, muscular pain, the pain of injuries, menstrual pain and even generalized pain.  By increasing blood flow to the painful area, moxibustion may act as an analgesic and promote prompt healing.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbal formulas can be compared to a beautifully written symphony or a well-formulated recipe.  Herbs are blended together to treat many ailments, from acute and chronic  health issues  to cold and flu.  In addition, herbs may help strengthen the immune system and  help alleviate pain generally.
